
ETC / RX - Systemic anti-infective agents - Opespira 1.5 MIU, 3 MIU
COMPOSITION:
Spiramycin: 1500000 IU; 3000000 IU.
Per each film coated tablet.
INDICATIONS:
Opespira is indicated for:
- Respiratory tract infections: Pharyngitis, tonsillitis, sinusitis, acute otitis media, bronchitis, pneumonia.
- Stomatological infections.
- Skin infections.
- Genital infections.
- Toxoplasmosis in pregnancy women and in immunodepressed patients.
- Prophylaxis in meningococcal meningitis.
Prophylaxis of recurrences of rheumatic fever, in case of penicillin allergy.
ADMINISTRATION AND DOSAGE:
Spiramycin should be taken at least 2 hours before or 3 hours after meals.
– Treatment of infections:
Adults: 3 to 6 MIU two times a day, or 1.5 to 3 MIU three times a day. For severe infections, the dose is 6 to 7.5 MIU two times a day.
Children weighing 20 kg or more: 1.5 MIU/10 kg of body weight per day, to be divided into 2 or 3 doses.
– Prophylaxis in meningococcal meningitis.
Children: 1.5 MIU/10 kg of body weight/day, to be divided into 2 doses for 5 days.
– Toxoplasmosis in pregnant women:
9 MIU per day, to be divided into three or four doses, for three weeks.
CONTRAINDICATIONS:
Patients with known history hypersensitive to spiramycin or erythromycin.
WARNINGS AND PRECAUTIONS:
- Patients with liver disease.
- Breast-feeding: Spiramycin passes into the breast milk. Stop breast-feeding if taking spiramycin.
SIDE EFFECTS:
Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, dyspepsia, fatigue, rash, urticaria.
INTERACTIONS:
Concomitant use with oral contraceptive drug will reduce prevention of conception.
